Choosing the right tiles for your home in the Philippines isn't just about the design. Whether you are shopping at big depots like Wilcon or your local "hardware" store, most floor tiles and granites are sold per box. A common mistake many homeowners make is buying just enough for the floor area without considering cutting losses.

Standard granite tiles (60x60 cm) usually come in 4 pieces per box, covering exactly 1.44 square meters. However, since rooms are rarely perfect multiples of these dimensions, you will always have "tapyas" or cut pieces. This is why adding a 5% to 10% buffer is non-negotiable.

Another tip: always keep at least one extra box in your storage. Manufacturers often change their "shade" or "batch color" every few months. If a tile cracks in your kitchen three years from now, it might be impossible to find an exact color match in the market.
