Tips for First-Time Floor Buyers in the Philippines
When you walk into a hardware store in Manila or Cebu, the prices on the signs can be tricky. They show you the price for one square meter to make it look affordable, but remember that wood flooring is a "packaged" product.
Think of it like buying floor tiles or even eggs. If you need 13 eggs for a giant leche flan, you can't just buy 13 pieces if the store only sells them in dozens. You have to buy 2 dozens (24 eggs). The same logic applies to wood parquet. If your room needs 10.5 square meters, and each box covers 2 square meters, you have to buy 6 boxes (12 square meters total).
Don't Forget the "PH Humidity" Buffer
In our country, the weather changes from very hot to very rainy. Wood expands and shrinks. This is why we added a 3% "Maintenance Buffer" in this calculator. Having extra planks from the same batch is a lifesaver. If you try to buy a replacement plank two years from now, the color might be slightly different even if it's the same brand!
