A probationary period is a trial period that happens at the start of a new job. During this time, employer will be watching to see if you’re a good fit for the job. If they think you’re not a good fit, it may be easier for them to let you go.

The length of your probationary period is decided by employer and is usually written in employment contract. Even though you’re on probation, you still get the same benefits and entitlements as other employees.

Different companies have different probation periods, with some being as short as 3 months and others as long as 6 months. Below, we have provided an example of a 6 month probation review form.

What to Review?

Here are some specific areas we can review from employee:

  • Job responsibilities and performance: The employee’s job performance and responsibilities refer to their comprehension of their assigned tasks and how well they have met the established expectations and standards for their position.
  • Communication and teamwork: The employee’s communication and teamwork skills are also evaluated, as they believe that effective communication and collaboration are crucial for the team’s success. The employee is encouraged to share their ideas on how to enhance these skills further.
  • Professionalism and attitude: Professionalism and attitude are also taken into account, ensuring that the employee’s behavior and demeanor in the workplace align with the company’s values.
  • Skills development: The employee’s skills development during their probationary period is assessed, and measures are implemented to support their growth and advancement in their role.
